Start Your Own Business Workshop

Ever considered starting your own business? Does the idea of being your own boss sound appealing? Starting a business can be tough, and you may not know where to begin-- but, we can help.

The Watauga Entrepreneur Development Partnership will be offering a series of free workshops for aspiring business people looking for that extra push forward to try out their business “dream.” The workshop instructors, Bryan Toney and Mark Pruett from Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business who specialize in teaching entrepreneurship, are responsible for developing the curriculum content and leading the workshops. Throughout the workshops, participants will be taught business skills and be given the resources necessary to take their next steps for beginning a business.

The first in the series of three FREE workshops begins with “Idea Development” on April 1st, with successive workshops onApril 15th and May 6th. All workshops are held from 6-9 pm atthe Appalachian Enterprise Center on the Poplar Grove Connector. The workshops are offered as a series…not as individual classes.

Participants will assess their interest and skills as well as discuss the pros and cons of entrepreneurship and self-employment. In addition, participants will work in groups to discuss business ideas and review business needs in the community. The second and third workshops will then help begin the process of turning an idea into an actual business by working on the elements of their business plan. During the 3rd workshop, the participants will be paired with an established business person or consultant who will provide first-hand information and real-world advice. There is no charge to participate in any of the workshops.
