Backyard Burgers Sponsors YES!

February 24-March 3, 2007 has been designated by the US House of Representatives as EntrepreneurshipWeek USA to feature the contributions of American entrepreneurs and encourage the development of entrepreneurs of the future. The Center for Entrepreneurship at Appalachian State is a partner in EntrepreneurshipWeek USA and is unveiling a new program that week, the Young Entrepreneurs Symposium. On March 1 at 3:30 on the 4th Floor of Raley Hall, students, faculty and members of the local community are invited to a panel discussion featuring six young successful entrepreneurs.
The event will be sponsored by the local owners of Family Only, Inc., who own three Back Yard Burgers restaurants in Boone and Hickory and the Marble Slab Creamery in Boone. Scott Prewitt, co-owner of Family Only, Inc., has been involved with Appalachian’s entrepreneurship programs for many years, participating in the annual Carole Moore McLeod Entrepreneur Summit and guest lecturing often.
“We appreciate the training that the Center for Entrepreneurship gives to the bright young minds at Appalachian State,” Prewitt said. “The Young Entrepreneurs Symposium will allow those current students who are considering launching their own business ideas upon graduation to hear from previous Appalachian students who have achieved success at an early age. Back Yard Burgers and Marble Slab Creamery have proudly employed many Appalachian business students through the years, and we hope to play a further role in their success through the efforts of the Center for Entrepreneurship.”
“We are excited about Backyard Burgers sponsorship of the Young Entrepreneurs Symposium”, Bryan Toney, Director for the Center for Entrepreneurship, said. “Scott and his partners are perfect examples of how young people can grow very successful businesses.”
“This event will showcase just a few of the many young entrepreneurs who come out of Appalachian State each year,” Toney said. “They will share their secrets to success and talk about opportunities and challenges that face young entrepreneurs. We hope the result will be to inspire even more of our students to pursue entrepreneurial careers.”
The Young Entrepreneurs Symposium will feature six entrepreneurs in their 20’s: Jon West, co-founder of 3tailer.com, Whitney Graham, owner of Bejeweled, Jason Berry, general manager of Footsloggers, Tyler Brunson, owner of two companies, Waste Consultants and United Shipping, Jonathan Seabolt, co-owner of Bolt Investments, and Chad Michael, owner of ArborCare Tree Service.
Family Only Inc. owns and operates three Back Yard Burgers restaurants and one Marble Slab Creamery. Back Yard Burgers provides premium fast-food in a quick-service environment. Marble Slab Creamery serves super-premium ice-cream in a fun, interactive environment with hundreds of combinations of flavors and mix-ins.
