Start Your Own Business Workshops
Have you ever thought about starting your own business, but didn’t know where to start? Working for yourself can open a new world of possibilities including financial independence, flexibility in scheduling, and the ability to make a living doing something that you enjoy.
The Rural Entrepreneurial Outreach program, designed to support and develop local entrepreneurs, small businesses and the community, is hosting two “Start Your Own Business” workshop series to boost aspiring and existing entrepreneurs in Watauga and Wilkes counties this fall. The workshops are a series, and therefore build upon each other. There is no cost to participate, but space in each program is limited.
Center for Entrepreneurship Director Bryan Toney and Dr. Mark Pruett in ASU’s Walker College of Business developed the course material. Bryan Toney will lead the workshops in Watauga County. Dr. Ben Powell and Center for Entrepreneurship Assistant Director Julia Rowland will lead the workshops in Wilkes.
The workshop series is FREE to participants and is open to anyone wanting to start or grow their own business. The first in the series of three workshops begins with “Idea Development”. Participants will assess their interest and skills as well as discuss the pros and cons of entrepreneurship and self-employment. In addition, participants will discuss business ideas and review business needs in the community. The second and third workshops will then help begin the process of turning an idea into an actual business by working on the elements of their business plan. During the third workshop, the participants will be paired one on one with an established business person or consultant who will provide first-hand information and real-world advice. There is no charge to participate in any of the workshops. The workshops are offered as a series…not as individual classes.
The Watauga series starts October 6, with successive workshops on October 20 and November 3. Each session will be held from 6-9 pm sat the Appalachian Enterprise Center, 190 Poplar Grove Connector, Boone, NC. You must attend all three workshops to participate. The registration deadline is October 2.
